The Northern Arizona Suns start the season in the Prescott Events Center with a win!

PRESCOTT VALLEY- The day basketball fans in the quad cities were waiting for finally came on Saturday night as the Northern Arizona Suns opened their inaugural season with a 122-107 victory over the Iowa Energy at the Prescott Valley Event Center.

“First game in the inaugural season, we wanted to go out there and put on a show,” said Shaquille Harrison who scored 22 points in the win. “For us to score some points and get the crowd into it, that was real huge.”

The Suns took a 61-53 lead into halftime but once the players came out from the locker room, the energy didn’t change as the team continued to put their foot on the gas and come out victorious.

“I’m pretty sure a couple players had some jitters for the first game and we just had to go out and play hard,” said Derrick Jones Jr. following a 19-point performance in the win. “Those first game jitters are gone. I know next game we are not going to have them.”

While the Suns had a big game offensively, the defense allowed 107 points on the night; a performance Northern Arizona Suns head coach Ty Ellis is looking to improve upon.

“I’m not surprised about the offense, I’m more disappointed in the defense,” said Ellis. “As a coach, you know, I’m always trying to get better.”

Observing this victory first-hand was nearly two-thousand fans who packed the Prescott Valley Event Center to see the Northern Arizona Suns in their inaugural game.

“It’s a blessing,” Harrison said. “People come to the games, watching us play, and supporting us is a real honor and we hope we continue having the fans come through game in and game out.”

With the first win under their belt, the Suns hit the road to Salt Lake City for a matchup with the Stars on Friday. The two teams will once again face off on Saturday, but game two will take place at the Prescott Valley Event Center. Both tip-offs are 7pm.
