It took extra innings in one game, and several homeruns in another, but the Federals won both games in a doubleheader against the Peoria Explorers.
After the first inning, the Federals had a 7-0 lead, thanks to a 3-run homer from Gary Mayberry, which was followed with hits from Kevin Hennessey, John Schiullo, Eddie George and Gregori Gonzalez.
Another homerun from Kevin Hennessey brought the score to 8-2 in the 3rd inning.
The lead didn't hold, however, when the Explorers tied tthe game at 10 in the top of the 7th inning.
It took a homerun by Matt Chavez to give the Federals the win, 11-10.
In the second game of the double header, the Federals led, 3-2, after the 2nd inning. That didn't last, after a 3-run homerun by the Explorers, the score was 6-3, in favor of the Peoria team.
Kenny Mickens served up a homerun for the Federals, and Gary Mayberry brought in a double. But, by the bottom of the 7th, the Federals were still down, 9-8.
It took another two homeruns from Eddie George and Gregori Gonzalez to win the second game with a score of 10-9.
