PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ – Jeff Kyrzakos was the hero on Tuesday night as his late goal in the third period pushed the Rapid City Rush to a 3-2 win over the Arizona Sundogs at Tim’s Toyota Center. The loss was also the first contest for new Sundogs head coach David Lohrei.
Kyrzakos poked in a loose puck in the goal crease with 23 seconds left as the Rush (29-17-6) won their 13th consecutive game against the Sundogs. Konrad Reeder scored an unassisted goal two minutes prior to Kyrzakos’ tally for his second of the game and to knot the game at 2-2.
Trailing 1-0 entering the second period, Arizona (16-29-9) responded with two goals to jump out in front. Olivier Proulx poked in a loose puck on the goal line for a power play goal with 5:20 remaining during a scrum in front of the net. Kevin Petovello then stuffed a puck in at the right goal post three minutes later for his ninth of the season.
Reeder scored the first period’s only goal for the Rush.
Scott Reid took the loss after stopping 26 shots. Tim Boron earned the win with 31 saves for the Rush.
Arizona finished 1-for-4 on the power play. Rapid City went 0-for-5.
The Sundogs and Rush hook up again on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:05 PM MST and the action can be heard live on Cattle Country 94.3 FM.
