INDEPENDENCE, MO – Ed McGrane tallied a hat trick for the Missouri Mavericks propelling them to a 6-2 win over the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. The Missouri forward finished with four points on the night.
It was the second straight game a Maverick recorded a hat trick as John-Scott Dickson scored one in the Friday night meeting between the two clubs.
Similar to Friday’s meeting, the Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period’s opening minutes. McGrane scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes for the Mavericks but Samson Mahbod put Arizona on the board from the slot at 9:34 and Daymen Rycroft tied the game on a breakaway with 4:10 remaining. Tyler Butler extended his point streak to five games for the Sundogs with an assist on Mahbod’s goal.
The Mavericks capped off the first period scoring with an unassisted goal from Dave Pszenyczny a minute after Rycroft’s tally.
The offense quieted down in period two, but the Mavericks extended their lead to 4-2 on a power play goal by Pszenyczny at 2:54.
Andrew Favot extended the Mavs lead early in the third before McGrane added his hat trick goal on the power play at 7:50.
The Sundogs finished 0-for-4 on the power play while the Mavericks went 3-for-7.
Charlie Effinger earned the win for Missouri, stopping 28 shots. Scott Reid took the loss for Arizona with 22 saves.
The Sundogs continue their 11-game game road trip next Friday when they visit the Bloomington Blaze for the only meeting this season between the two clubs.
