NAZ Suns Drop Lone Preseason Game to the Los Angeles D-Fenders

07 November 2016

Game marked the first ever NBA D-League contest at the Prescott Valley Event Center

PRESCOTT VALLEY – The Northern Arizona Suns made their first appearance in their new arena, but it was the Los Angeles D-Fenders who played spoiler as they beat the Suns 113-99.

It was the first ever NBA D-League game at the Prescott Valley Event Center, and was the first of a home-and-home series between the Suns and the D-Fenders, as Los Angeles will host the preseason game against the Suns next year.

D-Fenders guard Julian Jacobs was one of five Los Angeles players to score in double figures and he led the team in scoring with 15 points. The former Southern California Trojan did so off the bench, and joined forward Roscoe Smith, 12 points, as the only two reserves for Los Angeles to reach double-digits. Three starters recorded 10 or more points, as forward Justin Harper led the way with 14, forward Travis Wear scored 12 and guard Josh Magette chipped in 10.

Suns forward Derrick Jones Jr., who is 19 years old, led all scorers with 18 points, including 16 alone in the first half. Guard Elijah Millsap also provided a big first half spark for the Suns, as he scored nine of his 11 points in the first 24 minutes of play. Askia Booker, guard, was the other starter to score in double figures, as he put up 10 points, including eight in the first half. Former Louisiana State Tiger Josh Gray provided the bench with the most scoring, adding 10 points himself.

In all, 12 different players for each team scored, as they tried to show what they can do in an exhibition game with roster cuts approaching.

The NAZ Suns inaugural season tips off on Saturday, November 12th at 7 p.m., against the Iowa Energy at the Prescott Valley Event Center and the team is excited to bring affordable, family-friendly entertainment and quality basketball to Northern Arizona. A variety of season ticket membership packages are available, with packages starting as low as $8 per game for the full season.
