< data-setdir="false">Jason Parent scored 27 points that included 7 three pointers, but it was not enough for the Prescott Badgers to up end the top dog in the Grand Canyon Region. Coconino had to fight off a rabid run in the final minutes to beat the Badgers 66-61.

The Badgers came out with a lot of energy. Jason Parent drilled a three pointer, followed by a steal and hoop by Dellin Boyd opened up a quick 5-0 lead. Things settled down while the Badgers maintained their lead through most of the opening quarter. Coconino finally caught the Badgers at 19 with :22 left in the opening quarter.

The Panthers sharp shooting put the visitors up 26-21 a minute and a half into the second frame. Boyd tied the game up at 28. Sam Yeager glided to the hoop, and the Badgers regained the lead at 30-28 midway through the quarter.

< data-setdir="false">Preston Olney hit the second of his three three and Coconino led 34-30. Parent responded with his own thee and brought the Badgers to within 34-33. Coconino used some slick passing to get some open looks and built a lead. Olney's three as time ran out gave the Panthers a 43-33 halftime advantage.

< data-setdir="false">Prescott managed to hang around despite falling further behind. Parent's seventh three trimmed the deficit to 51-39 with 5:37 in the third. After a Schwartz basket, Yeager followed with his own three and it was 51-44.

An 8-0 run by Coconino pushed the Panther lead to 59-44. Jake Carters's basket left the Badgers trailing by 13 to start the final quarter, 59-46.

Baskets by Jason Parent and Korey Schwartz pulled the Badgers to within 59-52 with 5:44 remaining.

< data-setdir="false">Moments later a wide open Milap Owens drilled a three to tie at 59 with 3:24 left.

Olney once again hit a three for a 62-59 Panther lead just before the two minute mark. Both teams struggled to score as the intensity picked up.

Prescott rebounded a missed front end of one and one and called time out with just :35 left. After a pair of three point misses, Milap Owens drove the lane for a basket to draw ever so close at 62-61.

< data-setdir="false">The Badgers fouled Olney with :06 on the clock, who rattled the first free throw in, and sank the second as well, for a 64-61 lead. Prescott lost the ball trying to bring it up court, giving up a last second hoop for the final score. < data-setdir="false">

Prescott coach Travis Stedman said, "That was a really good team that beat us. They were disciplined and could shoot the ball. I was proud of our team and the effort we put out. The outcome could have easily been different."

Prescott drops to (5-4) in the Grand Canyon Region and (6-12) overall. The Badgers resume Grand Canyon Region play on Tuesday at Lee Williams. Tip time is 7pm.
