Prescott Badgers Beat the Mingus Marauders 55-45

The Prescott Badgers made their trip to Cottonwood worth while, by beating the Mingus Marauders 55-45.

The Badgers were without the services of Milap Owens, Jake Carter, and Scooter Schwartz. Collin Hicks got the start in Owens spot.

Prescott fell behind and trailed by two in a low scoring first quarter.

Korey Schwartz tied the game at 10. Yeager followed a miss with a basket for the Badgers first lead 12-10 with 7:04

Sam Yeager's breakaway slam dunk forced the Mingus coach to call a timeout with 6:02 left in the half, and Prescott led 16-10. Yeager nailed a three and Prescott led 19-11. Korey Schwartz earned his way to the free throw line, making one of two after four offensive rebounds to make it 20-11.

After a Marauder three, Trey Peters scored and Mingus was down by four, 20-16. Tucker Koning sank a pair of free throws to build the lead to six, 22-16.

Mingus closed the gap to 22-20 with under a minute in the half. Schwartz drive to the basket resulted in a three point play. 

Trey Peters made one of two free throws with less than a second in the half. The Badgers led 25-21 at the half.

Jason Parent went on his own 8-0 run to boost the Badgers lead to 35-24 with 4:55 left in the third quarter.

Mingus closed the gap a bit, the Schwartz inside moved pushed the lead back to ten at 38-28.

The Marauders inched closer, but Parent's three up the score back to double digits at 42-32. The score remained the same entering the fourth quarter.

Jace Taylor brought Mingus to within 42-37 , before Jaron Baurrs basket made it 44-41 with 5:05 remaining.

Parent went back to work on a pull jumper boosting the lead to 46-41.

Mingus got to within one point, then Collin Hicks sunk a jumper in the lane 48-45 with 1:32 left. Parent followed with a long range three to increase the lead to 51-45.

Mingus chose not to foul and the Badgers killed :42 off the clock. Parent was eventually fouled and sank a pair from the line. Parent also added the exclamation point on the night with a slam dunk at the buzzer.

Prescott (5-2) in the Grand Canyon Region, (6-10) overall, will play at Flagstaff on Tuesday at 7pm.
