Prescott Badgers 46, Deer Valley Skyhawks 0

Despite a full moon on Friday the 13th no less, the Prescott Badgers stayed focus and took care of business in their final non-region game, with a 46-0 beat down of the Deer Valley Skyhawks.

The Badgers played a nearly flawless game, only to be annoyed by the penalties that they were called for. The second half was missing the laundry, while the Badgers kept on truckin’.

Prescott took the opening kickoff and moved the ball 80 yards in just 1:47, capped off by a Sam Giordan 28 yard sidewinding run to the end zone. Clay Gross added the PAT, and it was 7-0.

Deer Valley tried to pull a fast one, and got burned on their first possession. A fake punt pass by the Skyhawks deep in their own territory fell incomplete, giving the Badgers the ball at the Deer Valley 22. Credit to the DV defense which held Prescott to a Clay Gross 25 yard field goal, putting the Badgers up 10-0 with 7:31 left in the opening quarter. Sylas Espitia strolled in to score from one yard out and it was 16-0 at the 4:13 mark.

Meanwhile the only success the Skyhawks has in moving the football was aided by numerous Badger penalties, but to Prescott’s Credit it did not cost them on the scoreboard.

Devin Boyd placed a nice toss over the middle to Trey Kohler who bolted down the middle of the field on an 80 yard strike to put the Badgers ahead 23-0. Prescott added one more score with less than a minute left in the first half when Sylas Espitia battled his way in from one yard out.

The second half was much of the same, with the exception of the penalties called on the Badgers. Boyd hit Greene from 5 yards out to make it 36-0. Gross added another field goal from 39 yards and it was 39-0. Creating his own highlight was Ethan Pena, who ran officially for a 48 yard touchdown that actually encompassed closer to 70 yards as he weaved his way from one side of the field to the next, with some key blocks, to score with 4:51 remaining.

Prescott (2-2) will return to the friendly confines of the newly renovated Bill Shepard Field next Friday, to face Flagstaff, for homecoming at 7pm. Deer Valley (1-2) visits Greenway next Friday.
