Badgers Take Off Past Rockets

07 September 2019

Prescott gets their first win of the season!

A pair of Prescott Badgers, Sam Giordan and Devin Boyd, each rushed for two touchdowns, in a 48-6 blowout win over the Moon Valley Rockets, Friday night at Ken Lindley Field.

The Badgers did not waste anytime getting into the end zone. After a Moon Valley punt, Sam Giordan scampered in from 14 yards out. Clay Gross added the extra point, and Prescott led 7-0 with 8:03 in the opening quarter.

Once again the Badger defense held the Rockets offense to three and out. Quarterback Devin Boyd glided on the far side for the first of his two touchdowns from 5 yards out. The Gross PAT made it 14-0 with 5:50 on the clock.

A short field allowed the Badgers to just need 30 yards to go up 20-0, when Boyd weaved his way in from 5 yards out, early in the second quarter. After an exchange of possessions, Sam Giordan bolted from 37 yards out with 4:47 left in the half to make it 27-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, a Moon Valley fumble on the return was recovered by Jacob Police at the Rockets 10 yard line. Sylas Espitia scored on the next play on a 10 yard run, and the Badgers led 34-0.

Prescott had one final chance to tack on another score just before halftime, but a Wyatt Snyder pass was tipped and intercepted.

Moon Valley replaced their starting QB Micah Southwick with Brayden Crotz who had limited success in moving the ball. Sam Teuscher cut in front of the route to pickoff a Crotz pass ending a threat to get on the scoreboard.

The Badgers moved down the field, and when Boyd hit Aaron Greene on a 4 yard pass play, Prescott held a 41-0 lead with 6:13 left in the third.

The final score for the home team came with 1:56 left in the third quarter, when Wyatt Snyder threw his first touchdown pass of the season, hitting Nathan Briseno from 5 yards out.

The Rockets had one final drive, and were finally successful in getting on the scoreboard. Jordan Richardson hit Cameron Faulkinbury, who fought his wY into the endzone as the clock ran out from 22 yards out. No extra point attempt left the final score of 48-6.

The Badgers (1-2) will visit Deer Valley next Friday at 7pm. Moon Valley will look for their first win, at Washington next week.
