Penalty Shootout Win Sends Badgers To Semis

Prescott pulls off the upset at Cortez

The #3 Cortez Colts entered the quarterfinal matchup with the #6 Prescott Badgers undefeated, but the goose-egg in the loss column is no longer.  The Badgers won 5-3 via penalty kicks, to break a 4-4 tie, to reach the 4A boys soccer semifinals.

The Badgers (13-3), scored first on a goal byb Cade Tutrone. Bryant Chivara added second goal, and when a Fernando Rodriquez kick found the net, Prescott had a 3-0 lead to take into the locker room after the first half. 

The Colts (12-1-2), battled back to tie the game in the second half to send the game to overtime. Cortez took a 4-3 lead before Fernando Rodriquez scored his seocnd goal of the night to tie the game 4-4 to force a shootout.

All five Badgers scored in the shootout that included Cade Tutrone, Fernando Rodriquez, Bryant Chivara, Edgar Martinez, and Brayden Nelson, as goalie Ryan Peeples got the needed saves to secure the hard fought road win. 

Prescott will face Catalina Foothills, who upset Tempe 2-1, on Satiurday at 1pm, at Williams Field High School in Gilbert.
