Lady Badgers Beat Mingus In Final Seconds 39-37

The Prescott Lady Badgers squandered an right point lead with seven minutes left, only to pull it out a 39-37 win over the Mingus Marauders in the Badger Dome last night.

Mingus jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but the Lady Badgers came roaring back. Dana Seavey pulled up for a very nice baseline jumper to tie the game at six. A minute later, Kira Reily pulled down a rebound and used the glass to give the Lady Badgers their first of the night at 8-6.

Mingus used a full court press throughout the contest, and at times it paid off. When Prescott was able to break it, they found ways to get the ball in the paint.

Haley Crumpler went hard to the basket giving the Lady Badgers the lead again at 10-9. The game went back and forth from that point, and Prescott went into halftime on a high note as Kira Reily tied the game at 21 as the first half ended. Who knew at the time, a fimiliar scenario would take place at the end of the contest.

The Lady Badgers came out and in the second half and maintained their lead as Kendall Crockett nailed a three pointer to increase the Prescott lead to 30-26 at the end of the third. Dana Seavey knocked down a tough shot off the glass, and it was 32-26. Seavey said, "This was a big win for us. It was really nice to come back and beat them, especially after losing the one over there." Eve Hawker's layup on a nice pass from Hollie Dalton, prompted Mingus to call a timeout with 7:12 left and a 34-26 Lady Badger lead.

After the timeout, the Marauders went on a 9-0 run to take a one point lead, 35-34 with 2:55 to play. Kira Reily made one of two free throws to tie the game at 35. Each time held a one point lead until the game was tied with :15 left after a Mingus free throw. L. Jones made the first, but missed the second. the miss went to the Marauders, but Prescott got the ball back after the Mingus threw the ball out of bounds with :15 left, and the game tied at 37.

Prescott dialed it up, when Hollie Dalton drove towards the basket, then dishing the ball to Kira Reily who knocked down the game winning shot. Mingus got the rebound on the free throw by Reily, as time ran out. Riley said, "We really wanted to get this one, since they beat us over there." Hollie Dalton said about the final seconds, "I just try to get the ball to the Kira while drawing the defense to me. She made the shot that gave us the win."

The Lady Badgers (4-3) in Grand Canyon region play, and (9-12) overall will travel to Flagstaff on Tuesday for a 5:30pm game.
