Badgers Ground Falcons 35-25

Prescott defense bends but doesn't break in final quarter.

The Prescott Badgers made huge strides in becoming a playoff contender with a big win over the Cactus Shadows Falcons 35-25. The Falcons, ranked #8 coming into the contest looked to deserve that ranking at times, but the Badgers played with a lot of heart, as displayed by their Coach Michael Gilpin. "These guys worked so hard and so long to play in a game like this. I can't say enough about how our boys came to play."

Prescott shocked the Falcons with three first quarter touchdowns. Ryan Greene, who finished with 253 yards, started at quarterback in the wildcat formation, bolted 44 yards on the far side to put the Badgers up 7-0, with a tick less than two minutes off the game clock.

Ryan Greene led the Badgers with 253 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The Falcons tied the game at seven on a six and half time consuming drive capped off by a one yard run by Dylan Kelleher. Ryan Greene put the Badgers up 14-7 on a 13 yard run. Greene put his arm to work on a beautiful 85 yard pass play across the middle to Trey Koehler with :42 in the opening quarter.

Cactus Shadows got within one score on 18 yard pass from Andrew Young to Dylan Kelleher with 7:01 in the second. With the score 21-14, the Prescott defense made an impressive goal line stand at the end if the first half to maintain that seven point advantage.

Prescott bottled that momentum through halftime, capitalizing on it on the first play of the third quarter. Austin Clark came into QB and handed the ball to Ryan Greene, who bolted 80 yards down the far sideline, an the Badgers led 28-14.

Cactus Shadows ran the ball over and over till Prescott was able to stop the Falcons, forcing a 26 yard field goal by Michael Marchica. The Badger lead was cut to 28-17 with 8:21 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, things got a little tighter as Grant Thom hauled in a clean catch from Andrew Young on a fourth and goal at the Badger three. Following a Badger punt, Cactus Shadows trailing by three, had a chance to take the lead, but a bad snap over quarterback Andrew Young was recovered by Sam Giordan inside the Falcons 30, setting up the final score of the night.

Leading 28-25, Prescott added one final blow when Austin Clark through a perfect pass to John Chaffeur to put the Badgers up by ten, 35-25 with 4:42 left.

The Falcons moved the ball down the field on run after run, but once again it was the Badgers "D" coming big, forcing a turnover on downs with 1:52 remaining. Afterwards Prescott took to the field to celebrate a well played hard fought win. Gilpin added, "These Prescott boys were very good tonight.”

Prescott improves to (2-1) and will host Moon Valley (2-1), next Friday for Homecoming. Kickoff is at 7pm. Cactus Shadows drops to (2-1).
