28 November 2012

It was a hard-fought loss to the Trojans, considered to be one of the best teams in the league.

The Badgers got their first taste of home cooking this season and it was not the taste they had hoped for, in a hard fought loss to the Paradise Valley Trojans 76-66. Dante Cameron drove hard to the basket and got a 3 point play out of the deal to give the Badgers a quick lead. That was short lived as Paradise Valley's two man show of 6-5 Ryan Finley and 6-6 Paul Watson used their size, athletic ability, and quickness to propel the Trojans to a ten point lead after one quarter.

The Badgers hung tough from that point forward. Jaran Hoover came off the bench to spark the Badgers hitting a long range jumper to cut the Trojan lead to 20-13 with 5:50 to play in the half. The Badgers cut the lead to 6 on 4 different occasions, but in the final minute, two quick baskets by Paradise Valley gave them back that 10 point lead at the break. Watson had 15 and Finley had 10 in the first half. Cam Gilbert lead the Badgers with 7.

In the third quarter, teams exchanged baskets till the Badgers made a run on back to back baskets by Keyshawn Liggins cut the Trojan lead to 37-31. ATommy McMahon drive to the hoop cut it ot 37-33. With the crowd behind them you sensed the Badgers were on their way. Hoover followed his missed shot by making the second to get the Badgers within 2. Finley answered for the Trojans time and time again to keep that slim lead in tact.

Prescott had a chance to tie the game at 44, but a 3 pointer by McMahon went off the rim and Paradise Valley went on a 7-0 run to end the third quarter to build that lead back to 54-44. The Trojans had their biggest lead of the night with 2:50 to play at 66-53. The Badgers outscored the Trojans 13-10 in the final 2 minutes, but it wasn't enough.

Paradise Valley improved to (4-1), while the Badgers drop to (1-3) and will host rival Bradshaw Mountain on Thursday night.

JV and Freshmen Teams

Unfortunately, there was no joy anywhere in basketball land at PHS Tuesday night. Paradise Valley came out ready to play and win against both the JV and the Freshman team, and that's exactly what they did.

The JV final score was 32-64 with the Trojans on top; we are still waiting for the official freshman final score, and will get that to you as soon as possible.

Here are some photos from the JV team.
