On January 5th, 2020 at approximately 1pm, a vehicle being operated by a 55-year-old Chino Valley resident was traveling west on State Route 69 just west of the Walker Road intersection. For reasons unknown at this time, their vehicle crossed left of center striking the left rear corner of a vehicle traveling eastbound, veered further left striking the right front and right side of another eastbound vehicle before striking a fourth vehicle head on in the eastbound lanes. The roadway was closed both east and west for several hours while officers conducted their investigation and patients were treated and transported from the scene by ambulance.
The passengers of several of the vehicles including the vehicle which caused the crash were all transported to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of the vehicle which caused the collision was transported in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. All other patients were treated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, impairment does not appear to be a factor in this case. The deceased driver’s next of kin has not been notified at this point in the investigation. We will issue an update as our investigation concludes. If you witnessed the collision we ask that you contact Lead Police Officer Mark Parker at (928) 777-1988.
