Tug-of-war on the racetrack!

While it’s always fun to spend an afternoon at the Arizona Downs racetrack, on Saturday there was an additional attraction. A pound for pound tug-of-war matchup between the Bradshaw Mountain football team and Arizona Downs track jockeys.

About 1500 pounds of muscle and grit lined up on each end of the rope. Individually, the 13 football team players chosen were brawnier and looked imposing. To make up the weight, there were more jockeys - men and women - on their side of the rope, wiry but strong.

Watch the results here:

Part of the fun was a 50/50 Raffle that took place, allowing fans to vote on the team they thought would win. Proceeds benefitted the Bradshaw Mountain High School Booster Club and the Permanently Disable Jockeys Fund.

Of course, this friendly challenge was just a part of the days activities. Eight races took place throughout the day, friendly wagers were made with tasty food available for the family to enjoy. And, we can't forget the horses - beautiful and sometimes feisty with speed built into their hooves.

Arizona Downs is open for racing each weekend day through Sunday, September 1. Admission is just $2 per person (kids under 10 are free).
