Arizona’s premier Pink Floyd Tribute act “Great Gig in the Sky” returns for a third time to the Prescott Valley Event Center (3201 N. Main St.) to entertain Northern Arizona’s Pink Floyd fans with their top notch music, lights, and video spectacle.
This year’s concert will undoubtedly be the band’s best, as they will be joined by special guest Roberta Freeman on vocals. Roberta sang with Pink Floyd during their 1987 World Tour, delivering the iconic female vocals to songs like “Time” and “Learning to Fly.” After her stint with Pink Floyd, Ms. Freeman went on to spend years singing with legendary rockers Guns and Roses.
“I went to sleep every night in high school listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon,” laughs Roberta from her home in Los Angeles, “so I actually did pinch myself once during my first performance with them!” As for performing with Great Gig in the Sky, Roberta remarks, “The band is great, and it’s always a pleasure to share the love of this music with a live audience.”
The 1000+ fans who saw the band’s last performance in Prescott Valley know that Roberta’s assessment of the band is correct. That show featured a live rendition of Pink Floyd’s landmark album “The Wall”, complete with quadraphonic surround sound, stage props, and a 20 foot high wall. Though this year’s set is a closely guarded secret, lead guitarist Jason Southard smiles, hinting that fans “will hear a lot of DarkSide of the Moon.” Classic songs from Wish You Were Here and Animals are also mentioned, but Southard jokes “that’s off the record,” pun possibly intended.
Tickets for this performance are available through Ticketmaster by phone (800-745-3000) or online (www.ticketmaster.com). A small number of VIP packages are available which include backstage passes and a meet and greet with the band after the concert. Proceeds benefit the Prescott Valley Performing Arts organization.
