Bill's Newscast: Big Brothers Big Sisters in Prescott Valley

It’s a celebration for Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Sidewalks and paving

Now that installation of sidewalks is done on Dameron drive, asphalt paving is taking place. City of Prescott crews are performing this work from Comfort to Brannen Avenue. Dameron is closed to through traffic, but personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents. Crews are also preparing the subgrade and laying base course along Sonora Drive in advance of chip sealing work and tying newly installed service lines into private connections along Campbell Avenue, from Madison Avenue to Sonora. Over on Comfort, driveways are being replaced as needed from Lincoln Avenue to Campbell. All this work is part of the Dexter Neighborhood Road and Utility Upgrade Project. Work hours are 7 am to 6 pm today through Thursday.

Doce Pit cleanup

If you have an off-highway vehicle or 4X4 truck, your help is wanted for a Prescott clean-up. The clean-up is scheduled to take place from 9 am to 1 pm this Saturday at Doce Pit, located off Iron Springs Road. Those who have OHV’s or 4X4 trucks can explore the area and remove scattered trash. Volunteers with trucks and trailers can help get trash back to dumpsters. The road is graded, so volunteers with cars and SUV’s are welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult. More information on this cleanup effort and registration instructions are available at

ADOT repairing guardrails

Watch for delays if you’ll be traveling on Highway 169 or I-17 during overnight hours. ADOT crews are scheduled to perform guardrail repair work from midnight to 6 am Thursday. Highway 169 will be narrowed to 1 lane in each direction with partial closures in the area of the I-17 junction. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic through the work zone. Southbound I-17 near 169 will be narrowed to 1 lane from 6 tonight to 6 tomorrow morning, also for guardrail repair. This work will also cause northbound I-17 to be narrowed to 1 lane from 6 tomorrow night to midnight Thursday.

YBBBS goes to Prescott Valley

Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters will have a presence in Prescott Valley. During a recent live appearance on Q and A with host DJ Fone on KQNA, Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO Juliana Goswick explained her organization is opening an office on Robert Road. Goswick says Prescott Valley is a large area of growth for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Following tomorrow’s ribbon cutting for the new Prescott Valley office, the “A Summer Evening in France” event will take place at 5 Friday night at the Forest Villas Hotel, located on Lee Circle in Prescott. This event will feature performers from the Voila Tour, French food and French items for sale. All money raised from ticket sales will be donated to Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters.
