On March 5, 2009, a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center. The officer is identified as 52-year-old Clifton Stallings, who has been charged with one count of Unauthorized Communication with a Prisoner. Stallings has been employed with YCSO as a Detention Officer for nearly 3 years.
The investigation began several weeks ago when YCSO detectives learned that Stallings had been communicating with an inmate regarding matters not related to duties as a detention officer. Stallings had also been seen passing unauthorized literature to the inmate in violation of the statute. Once the information was confirmed, Stallings was placed on administrative leave with pay. A criminal investigation concluded that unlawful violations had occurred and Stallings was arrested during a meeting at the Camp Verde Detention Center. Following the booking process, Stallings was released with a court appearance summons for the misdemeanor violation.
Stallings remains on administrative leave, but now without pay.
YCSO detectives are continuing the investigation to ascertain if there were any other violations involving Stallings and prohibited inmate contact.
