Annual Tradition of playing National Anthem continues for local charter school.

The BASIS Prescott band made the trip to Phoenix to play the National Anthem just prior to the Arizona Diamondbacks-San Diego Padres game Tuesday night. This has been a BASIS tradition for some time now. Five BASIS schools combined this year combining for over 120 members. The local Prescott BASIS Band made up 30 of that total.

Prescott BASIS band director Dr. Curtis Peacock said, "I'm a huge Dbacks fan, so for me it was awesome to step out on the field. We performed in the right field warning track and they showed close-ups of us on the big screen. So that was really neat too. They also gave us complimentary tickets that were really excellent seats right behind home plate. To top it off, the Dbacks are doing excellent this year and they won the game 9-3." When asked if this is something that he would like to continue, Peacock added,"Yes, I plan to do it every year as long as I'm involved."

Moments after the performance, the game began. The Diamondbacks wasted no time jumping on the Padres. In the bottom of the first, Paul Goldschmidt hit his 4th homerun on the young season, a towering shot over the left field foul pole for a 1-0 lead. Arizona added three more in their half of the second inning when Chris Owings knocked in Nick Ahmed and AJ Pollock, with a two out triple. Goldschmidt followed with an RBI single and a 4-0 lead.

The Padres got on the board in the third when Wil Myers doubled and scored on an RBI single by Yangervis Solarte.

The lead grew to 5-1 with an RBI double by AJ Pollock scoring Nick Ahmed. Chris Owings singled in Pollock and it was 6-1. Daniel Descalso smacked his first homerun of the season to right field, and a 7-1 in the fifth. The lead was pushed to 9-1 in the sixth as the Dbacks scored when Pollock crossed the plate on a double by Goldschmidt. Yasmany Tomas's sacrifice fly scored Goldschmidt.

Patrick Corbin (2-3), threw seven solid innings top pick up the win.

What is next for the BASIS Band? There is a concert tonight at the Elk's Theater at 6pm . There will be three orchestras: a 6th grade, 7th grade and an 8-11th grade orchestra. Admission is FREE!
