PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- On a chilly Friday night, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's soccer torched California State University Maritime Academy for twelve goals, seven of the goals came from Mason Laaksonen (SR/Austin, Texas), Chiedu Ikeme (SO/Inverness, Scotland) and Ethan Carlson (SO/Edgewood, Wash.). The Eagles (10-3-1, 6-1 Cal Pac) handled their business and reamin tied atop the California Pacific Conference.
The goal barrage started just seven minutes into the first, as Ikeme found Lucas Garcia (FR/Barcelona, Spain) at the top of the box and he slotted it by the Keelhaulers (0-9, 0-5 Cal Pac). Four minutes later Laaksonen got his thirteenth goal of the season after beating his defender and skirting around the goal keeper. Jacob Baker (JR/Graham, Wash.) then found the net only 2:30 after Laaksonen off Garcia's tremendous find. Ikeme then got his first of the season and after that it was all downhill. ERAU scored two more before half and entered the break up by six.
After Ikeme scored his second, Gavin Underwood (SO/Prescott, Ariz.) scored his first collegiate goal for the Eagles on a tremendous header that floated over the keepers grasp. The first of EthaCarlson's hat trick went in next before Jake Muth (SR/Cave Creek, Ariz.) scored his first collegiate goal. Carlson then scored his second before using a slick bicycle kick to get his third. A floating ball into the box just happened to fall towards Carlson who threw his body into the acrobatic shot and blew it by the Keelhauler keeper.
With Mason Laaksonen's two goals Friday, he now holds the mark for the second most goals in a season (14) and is only one behind the all-time mark set by three players (two in 2012 and one in 2014).
The Eagles will take on Sierra Nevada University on Sunday at 3:30 at Varsity Field.
