Windy Conditions Bring Danger of Wildfires

11 April 2018   Dr. Curtis James

High fire danger.

Forecast Discussion:

A fast-moving upper-air trough will move across northern Arizona and Utah this Thursday to Friday and bring a strong cold front with it. Expect windy conditions and about 20 degrees of cooling between Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, precipitation is unlikely with this event due to lack of moisture in the air. The biggest threat is wildfires from already dry grasses and shrubs, low relative humidity, and strong wind. Please be careful with fire or anything flammable these next few months, especially when it is windy and warm/dry.

Another dry trough/front is slated to affect us next Monday – Tuesday, but does not appear that it will be quite as strong.
