AZ’s Only Radio Show for Women Hits Its Stride

28 February 2017

Janis Best Show Set to Inspire

Prescott resident Janis Best is a hit with listeners to Prescott Public Radio with The Janis Best Show, airing weekends since June across the northern half of the state. As Arizona’s only radio show focused on women, the show highlights the accomplishments, interests, concerns and aspirations of women through an accessible, conversational format.

When Best and her husband arrived in Prescott in 2012 from her native New York City, Best looked around for opportunities to apply her 30 years of experience as a marketing executive and fashion consultant, and noticed that the area offered little media relevant to women’s lives. With her natural gregariousness Best quickly made contacts in the community, soon creating an opportunity to get involved in radio on KQNA/KPPV with AZ Girlfriend and Style Secrets, which ran from 2012 to 2015.

But Best now had the radio bug, and in early 2016 she pitched a new show more focused on building community among women to PPR, then in the midst of a programming revamp. Veteran PPR producer Steven Ayres took on the project, and The Janis Best Show went on air at the beginning of June with Prescott TV and radio personality Sandy Moss as the first guest.

The show explores the interests of women through conversations with local leaders in their fields, including food and fashion experts as well as nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs, physicians, artists and officials. “Sure, women account for 80% of consumer spending, and that’s important to us, but we also want to get beyond women-as-consumers to share the experience and wisdom of people who are leaders in their fields and find ways to empower the listener to accomplish whatever inspires her,” says Best.

“Fashion, beauty, fitness, wellness, finance, travel, the arts, decorating, dining, entertainment, education, philanthropy, raising a family, building a business, we cover it all,” says Best, with “insider secrets, timely information, smart tips, product and retail reviews, plus plain good advice from experts.”

Expanding her reach to the digital and social media world, Best recently launched a new website ( and Facebook page ( to provide online access to the show and expand on its topics with articles, a blog and podcasts ( She also appears bi-weekly with Sandy Moss on AZTV’s Sandy & Friends (with a new segment, “Girl Talk.”)
