PRESCOTT, AZ (February 22, 2019) – The Prescott City Council will hear a presentation by water expert Gary Woodard, about the City’s water supplies and current and future demands at a special study session on Tuesday, February 26 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Gary Woodard is Principal at Water Resources Consulting. Over the last six years, he has advised dozens of municipalities, private water companies, water districts, tribes, and regulatory agencies on various municipal water issues, with an emphasis on modeling and forecasting demand and evaluating conservation programs and measures.
Prior to his consulting work, Gary spent over 30 years at the University of Arizona. His positions included Associate Director of the NSF-funded SAHRA Center, and Deputy and Acting Director of the Water Resources Research Center. Additionally, he founded a water conservation alliance and was president of Universities Council on Water Resources (UCOWR). Gary has also worked closely with UNESCO water centers throughout the world, namely in the Middle East and North Africa.
“The information we are giving to Council will change the dialogue about water in Prescott,” said City Manager Michael Lamar. “This information will also have major policy implications for Council going forward.”
Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli agreed. “Gary’s credentials are unassailable. He has worked all over the world, in the field, and publishing dozens of papers,” he said. “We are excited to hear what he has to say about Prescott’s water supply.”
