Learn About Options for Missing Teeth

10 January 2017   Laurie Beaman

It’s a New Year, a New You!  Your New Smile Can Start Today!

How would you like to improve your smile in 2017?  Determine what your first step will be:

  • Many people just want to get back into a dental health regime, whether it be general hygiene appointments or periodontal gum disease care, which they have let go by the wayside. In that case, if you don’t have a relationship with a dentist you need to find a dental professional that you trust and who has adequate knowledge and technology needed to address your level of care needs. When it comes to selecting a healthcare provider, following the trends of general advertising can be very intimidating and sometimes unclear.  Traditionally, word-of-mouth advertising from friends and family members has been a reliable way to find a reputable provider to build a relationship with. Thanks to social media and informed consumers who are willing to share their experience, the online review system and social media platforms wield great power in shaping the way dental practices are communicating and reaching out to the public. The benefit of reading patient reviews is that an individual with a relationship at a dental or medical practice - who knows the practice - understands the doctor’s care philosophy and is familiar with how well the staff treats them, has experienced the financial practices of the office, and is willing to share positive experiences.  Patients are the greatest resource a dental practice can have to help others to become familiar with an office before they even visit a practice.  Conversely, the review process can also help a dental practice that is striving for excellence to evaluate their systems and protocols to improve patient experiences. Finally, the reviewing process can be a useful tool to consumers to weed out practices that may not fit your interests.

In the dental industry, dental practices striving for excellence recognize the power of online reviewing, as well as social media as a tool to reach a broader spectrum of potential new patrons to the practice.  For many dentists, you should be able to access reviews through practice websites, providing numerous reviews by a practice’s patients over time at your fingertips to give you a picture of the level of satisfaction of a typical dental experience at a practice. Further, there are both general business review sites, such as, Google Reviews, and more specific dental/medical provider evaluation sites, such as,, where patients share their experiences with the people they know and beyond.

  • Many have wanted a brighter smile for some time but don’t know whether they are a good candidate.  Your first step will be to contact various dental care providers to ask about their process which typically takes several appointments.  During the appointment with the dentist, s/he will determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening and answer any questions about the process and expected results.

  • If your smile has one or several missing teeth, the task of replacing your teeth to bring back your complete smile may seem daunting.  However, there are some steps you can take to make the road easier.  Empowering yourself with information to learn about the various tooth replacement options is the first step. There are many types of tooth replacement options, including removable prosthetics, permanent prosthetics, and a combination of both. Arming yourself with knowledge of replacement options and the pros and cons of each will give you confidence when discussing your best options with your dentist to make an optimal decision for you and your oral health.

Dr. Rick Farnsworth, D.D.S. Jason C. Campbell D.D.S. Cosmetic & Family Dentistry will be presenting a FREE Community Seminar entitled “Options for Replacing Missing Teeth.”  If you have missing teeth or painful dentures and would like to learn more about your tooth replacement options, you are welcome to attend this seminar taking place at Alta Vista Retirement Community on Wednesday, January 11th, 12:30-1:30 PM.
