Nicholas Goldstein Scores Two Goals for Eagles In 2017 Home Opening Win

PRESCOTT- Nicholas Goldstein scored two goals, Jacob Baker scored one goal and Ottawa University scored a goal on themselves as the Embry Riddle Eagles men’s soccer team won the 2017 home opener against Ottawa University 4-0 on Thursday, September 7th.

The scoring got started for Embry Riddle in the 27th minute as Jacob Baker knocked one in to give Embry Riddle the advantage. Ottawa University would shoot themselves in the foot forty-five seconds later as a wild kick resulted in a goal on themselves.

“That’s what changed the game,” Embry Riddle Eagles men’s soccer head coach Dan Balaguero said. “When you score the first one and get the second one so quickly, it changed the match.”

Goldstein would score the final two goals for Embry Riddle with one just before halftime and another coming out of the break in the 49th minute. Goal keeper Jake Hutto kept Ottawa at bay with three saves, playing all ninety minutes.

Even with a 3-0 lead at half, Embry Riddle kept the heat on Ottawa throughout the second half, a big positive for Balaguero and the Eagles.

“We talked at halftime the importance of not conceding,” Balaguero said. “The full performance is important. I was happy with the second half..we didn’t give anything away, we kept plugging away.”

Eagles men’s soccer is back in action at home Tuesday, September 12th, against Arizona Christian University. Start time is 7:30pm.
