Rock the Vote Prescott: Young Professionals Learn More About 443
Featured

21 August 2017

Nearly fifty people gathered together in a neighborhood backyard for a Rock the Vote Prescott event Friday night.

“Rock the Vote Prescott! Get involved in the future of our community,” read the announcement.

However, this was not your typical political gathering. The usual party diehards were, in large part, not seen. This was a group of everyday young professionals who want to make a difference and be involved. But their time is at a premium, jam-packed every day with infinite responsibilities. Multi-tasking is a way of life, almost a matter of survival.

Moms and Dads were in attendance, kids were running around but well-behaved. Casual appetizers from El Gato Azul were enjoyed, but not the center of attention. These people came to mingle, share their ideas, business successes and challenges. And they were there to learn more about Prop 443.

Hosted by Nicole Kennedy and Donna Werking, the invitation explained, "In light of some of the recent media coverage regarding Prop 443, we're guessing you may have more questions. Join us tonight to get the facts!”

Prescott Council members Billie Orr and Steve Sischka were invited to come answer those questions and make a short presentation. Completely informal, as Orr and Sischka spoke, people simply stood around and listened. Questions asked were quick, direct and thoughtful, the kind one would expect from people busy with work and families and life.

Afterwards, Kennedy summed up the purpose of the event when she posted on Facebook, "Thank you Steve Sischka and Billie Orr for sharing with us about the importance of voting YES on 443! Because… Prescott's future matters."
